The Jakarta office is Aliz's newest branch, which opened in December 2022. We established our first office in Asia, in Singapore, back in 2016. To better serve our clients, we decided to expand our team in Indonesia and open a development center there as well. The aim is not only to better and more cost-effectively serve our growing client based in Southeast Asia, but also as a global company, to be able to manage global demand. After a lot of hard work, we officially launched our physical office in June 2023. We started with 4-5 people in a smaller space, located on Jendral Sudirman Street, SCBD, Central Jakarta. It was a cozy office, but as our team grew throughout the year, we realized we needed a bigger one. By early 2024, we moved to a more spacious office to accommodate our growing team. Now, we’ve expanded to 10 members here! :)
Now our Jakarta office is located right in the heart of the city, just a few hundred meters from the famous Bundaran HI, one of Jakarta’s most iconic landmarks. It’s in Gedung Jaya on MH Thamrin Street, and it can comfortably accommodate Alizers up to 15 team members. Located on the fourth floor, we also get a beautiful view of Jakarta’s bustling streets.
We’ve got a meeting room for eight, an open workspace, a small but handy pantry, and a cozy lounge area. The office gets livelier on Wednesdays when most of us come in, though a few drop by on other weekdays too. And it’s especially busy on the last Wednesday of the month when three of our remote team members visit. For our team outside Jakarta, we offer flexibility— they visit the office once every month. For those in Jakarta, it’s one visit a week, though many like to come in more often. During these kinds of days, the office always gets a little noisier, making the office vibrant.
Now, I can’t believe it’s already been almost two years since we opened the Jakarta office. During this time, we’ve shared so many fun moments. One of the highlights of our Jakarta office routine is our monthly lunch outings. Once a month, we all go out and explore nearby restaurants—Pizza, Chinese food, Nasi Padang, Korean chicken, Nasi Rames—you name it, we’ve tried it! And on days when some of us are too busy, we just order delivery from these restaurants to the office. Occasionally, even our colleagues from Singapore join in when they visit Indonesia.
Speaking of fun moments in the Jakarta office, team-building events are also a big part of our yearly agenda, and of course, I can't skip sharing this story. In 2023, we had an amazing opportunity to organize two APAC team-building events, bringing together our teams from Indonesia, and Singapore.
The first APAC team-building event in January 2023 took us to Batam, Indonesia. Our Indonesian team members flew to Singapore to meet with the Singaporean team, and after gathering there, we traveled together to Batam, which was nearby. It was a two-day, one-night stay at a beautiful resort, providing a great opportunity to break the ice, especially since many of us were meeting for the first time. We enjoyed various activities, delicious food, and a memorable time bonding. Afterward, the Indonesian team spent a few extra days in Singapore, visiting our office and making new memories together.
Later in October 2023, with our team expanding to seven members, we headed to Phuket, Thailand, for a three-day, two-night event. We started with dinner at a local Thai restaurant, as enjoying the amazing Thai cuisine together is an essential. The second day featured a private boat tour aimed at enjoying and relaxing, where we explored the beautiful islands and crystal-clear waters around Phuket. Afterward, we participated in a fun workshop on Aliz’s values, reflecting on how we could embody them in our daily work. We wrapped up the trip with a rooftop gathering at our hotel that left us feeling closer as a team.
Today, in the year 2024, team building remains one of the key highlights of our yearly events at Aliz, helping us foster stronger bonds within the Jakarta office and with colleagues from other offices. In September 2024, our Indonesia team got an amazing opportunity to join the Annual Team Building Event at our Budapest office. We spent the first few days working alongside our colleagues in person, making the most of face-to-face interactions after knowing them only through screens. The main event took place in Hatvan, near Budapest, where we relaxed and connected with team members from other offices. The activities and team mission brought everyone together, and we ended the event with a fun party, grateful for the experience.
Life in the Jakarta office has been so colorful, filled with noisy and fun office days shared among our team of 10. We’ve built a strong bond, creating a supportive and energetic atmosphere that makes each day enjoyable. I’m also genuinely grateful for the opportunities we’ve had to engage in activities that have strengthened our connections within the Jakarta team and across the region. I’m consistently amazed at how our company prioritizes team happiness and ensures our well-being is always maintained.
As we look to the future, I’m excited to see our team continue to expand and evolve, and I can’t wait to discover what we will accomplish together.
